FESTIVE SEASON AND GBV

ree

Let’s fight Gender based violence (GBV) in season and out of season. Incorporating self-awareness, awareness of others, self-regulation and mindfulness can proactively prevent unnecessary conflicts , trauma incidents and experiences often triggered by the influence of alcohol and substances during festive seasons.

It is a common practice for unemployed youth to over indulge in alcohol and substances as an escape from unemployment related issues such as financial struggles, depression or anxiety. Similarly, alcohol consumption seems to increase extremely during holiday celebrations. However, true joy and happiness cannot be derived from drugs.

Drugs and alcohol use reduction should be everyone’s concern, therefore , let us celebrate responsibly, and reduce GBV during this upcoming holiday season in Botswana.
