How to Cope With not Knowing Your Father

ABSENT FATHERS

There are challenges of growing up without knowing ones' dad, there are children raised by single mothers without the presence of their fathers. This situation which some may take for granted, creates an identity confusion or crisis for some children. For those who do know who their biological fathers are, often it is a situation of not having a relationship or healthy relationship with their dad. Some grow into their adulthood without knowing who their dad is and some cultural practices may forbide them from asking questions, and hence sometimes they grow-up with anger issues, depression, confusion, bitterness and resentment.

Then there are those who grow up without the closeness they once had with their dad due to divorce which often leads to the loss of a relationship with their dad, loss of the fatherly love they once experienced especially where some ex-wife denies them visitation. Regardles of what happened between the two, a responsible father who is not abusive, who does not harm the child in any way deserves to remain part of the child's life for the sake of the child. Its always important to put differences aside and do what is best for the child in divorce situations because, growing up without a dad my create emotional issues and contribute to some children losing their sense of belonging.

Growing up without knowing ones' dad presents missed opportunities :

- missed fatherly love

- missed support

- missed guidance

- missed mentorship
